Mortises & Tenons

The Woodwright's Shop

Mark his face well, my friends, for he is the probably the coolest guy on earth. He is Roy Underhill.

A fuller and more descriptive post about his show will have to wait, because I'm just so excited about what he made today. He made a roundabout chair.

What's a roundabout chair? Why, i'll show you!

This is a roundabout chair:

It's not that appealing.

This is also a roundabout chair:

A bit more handsome.

But, but, this is also a roundabout chair:

Stunning, if a bit dramatic. Vive En Espoir? Come on.

A link to a whole page dedicated to the above chair can be found here. The chair is itself in the most unfortunate of places: Boston.

Fear not, Cascadians. I am going to build this chair!

While mine probably won't have all of the little decorative "touches" like the clawfeet or the entire back of the chair being intricately carved, I do hope to suitably adorn the posts and seat with bevels and such.

Seriously, if I'm not posting pictures of this chair within three months, I want somebody to call me on it.
