Wake Up April

The Promise Ring; Wood/Water

Four years ago this month, The Promise Ring released their final album, Wood/Water. As Courtney pointed out in her last post, indeed, the Frisbee d-bags are out in full force, but they are just a signal species of a greater phenomenon: Spring in Eugene. I'm sure that there is not much else that is as beautiful (weather permitting).

And my solution to help counteract the frisbee d-bags? It is the same as it ever has been: Take 1 parts Wood/Water album, apply to portable to music device. Enjoy. Granted, four years ago I was listening to it on a minidisc player before Steve Jobbs had ever even dreamed up the ancestor of the iPod nano which I currently employ, but the effect is the same.

I'm not trying to sell anyone on the Promise Ring, or even this particular album. If you missed it the first time around, don't sweat it. There are other more obviously vernal albums for you to enjoy. But if you were a fan, or if you want to feel even more like you've been hit in the gut at the end of All The Real Girls, the time has come to get this album out of its Winter mothballs again.
