ALARMED DISGUST: MTV Awards
This is fat?
Is this?
Loyal readers of this blog are not likely the type with which I am disgusted, but this is still a seriously disturbing thing. I am nothing if not an advocate for rail-thin models, and that notwithstanding, I am aghast that in what has largely, and fairly, been termed a trainwreck (Britney Spears' performance at the MTV awards), the strongest attacks have been levied against her weight. Even now detractors are backpedaling and claiming that it is not her weight, but her inappropriate outfit that offends. Not good enough. If that outfit should be worn by anyone, and I don't necessarily think it should, then I see no problem with Spears wearing it. Personally, I think there is plenty to be turned off about by Spears, but this body is not one of those things. She looks damn good.
Never before has it seemed so blatant to me, this phenomenon of using up the youth and sexuality of a young girl and then almost unanimously turning on and crucifying her for it every step of the way. Do not mistake me, I have little sympathy for the woman herself, but the way the public beast is acting is deeply troubling.
